Pentru institu\u021biile membre ale Conven\u021biei Europene pentru Teatru (ETC) finan\u021barea medie este de 80%. Doar dou\u0103 teatre din e\u0219antion, situate Slovacia \u0219i \u00een Serbia, reu\u0219eau ca din v\u00e2nz\u0103rile de bilete s\u0103 finan\u021beze peste 50% din activitate. Cele mai ridicate praguri de finan\u021bare public\u0103 erau de 97-98%, acesta fiind cazul teatrelor din Nicossia, Timi\u0219oara (TNTM) \u0219i Kosovo. \u00cen multe cazuri, aloc\u0103rile de la buget \u0219i v\u00e2nz\u0103rile de bilete sunt completate de alte surse de venit, precum sponsoriz\u0103ri sau activit\u0103r\u021bi comerciale nelegate de activitatea artistic\u0103.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Num\u0103rul de locuri variaz\u0103 extrem de mult de la un teatru la altul. De la c\u00e2teva zeci de locuri (De Toneelmakerij, Amsterdam) la peste 4.000 (Teatrul din Dortmund), teatrele europene constituie un perisaj de mare diversitate, care se reflect\u0103 \u0219i \u00een programele artistice, dar \u0219i \u00een rolul social \u0219i comunitar. Dup\u0103 clasificarea celor de la Freie, \u00een e\u0219antion au fost cuprinse dou\u0103 categorii de institu\u021bii: unele care pariaz\u0103 pe dezvoltarea de noi audien\u021be \u0219i noi estetici, preocupate \u00eendeosebi de publicul t\u00e2n\u0103r, \u0219i unele catch-all sau cu un rol \u00een politicile publice din sectorul cultural \u2013 teatre municipale, de stat sau na\u021bionale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00centre cele dou\u0103 categorii, diferen\u021ba de audien\u021be este remarcabil\u0103. Teatrele din prima categorie reu\u0219esc s\u0103 atrag\u0103 o mare parte a publicului sub 30 de ani. P\u00e2n\u0103 la 58% dintre spectatori sunt \u00een aceast\u0103 grup\u0103 de v\u00e2rst\u0103. De asemenea, ele au o mult mai mare pondere a publicului cu studii superioare.
